Golf is often a game associated with the people of high class. Definitely this interesting game is something that has always been regarded as a “classy game.” so how did this “classy sport” originate? Let us find out:
What is the meaning of GOLF?
Only a few people know that even today, the term GOLF is discussed and debated because of its name. GOLF is actually considered an acronym of “Gentlemen Only Ladies Forbidden.” So, is it true? Well, this is something that has remained a subject of debate since centuries and even today. Mostly, it can be said that Golf has a Scottish origin.
Origin of golf: pre 1400’s
The origin of golf cannot be attributed to a particular year because throughout the history, we see the traces of golf. Variations of this game were enjoyed and played during middle Ages in Europe. In the older times, the game was played from villages to villages.
Also known as “Gowf” in the older times in Scotland, this game was so popular that the Act of Parliament even banned it on the Sundays to preserve skills and art of archery.
What is the origination of golf is still not very clear, even if we recall the entire history, but the Scots believe that they have enough proofs to prove that the game of Gowf originated in the Eastern Scotland’s link lands.
It is therefore also believed that the game of golf was born and raised up in Scotland for more than 500 years and now, it is a game that is cherished by millions of “high class people” all over the world.
Over the centuries, however, the game has come a long way and has turned out to be far more professional.
